Coolio-Niato

Game Development Update

Posted by Coolio-Niato Jul. 5, 2008 @ 1:08 AM EDT

Well it is about 3 months I've been working on my turn based game and it is NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING RELEASED.

Why? (you may ask) Well, I'll tell you =)

A lot of the battle engine has been refurbished and I added new things to make the game more interesting and more tactics like =) This includes an energy bar for all characters and a multitude of skills you can buy, equip and enhance using attribute points.

Added onto this, I've made a few more character designs, some dialogs and progressed very far from my last update.

This game will probably take another 1 - 1 1/2 months before BETA, but that's just a random estimate. So for now I'm gonna leave you with a screeny of the skill & attribute menu so you guys can see the more interesting gameplay that is being built up in the game. And if you are wondering, no there is not title yet, but there is a storyline =)

Is it going to a single player only game or will it be multiplayer as well?

Jul. 5, 2008 | 1:15 AM Coolio-Niato responds:

Single player for now. Multiplayer possibly but dont take my word for it.

Looking pretty intense.

Jul. 5, 2008 | 1:22 AM Coolio-Niato responds:

Intense is this game's middle name.

Holy crap....Coding this game must have been a bitch. Anyways the screenshot makes the game look even more promising.

Two question...1st one is are you going to release a teaser trailer for the game and 2nd you never announced who was doing the graphics for the game or have you announced it?!?!?!?!!?

Jul. 5, 2008 | 1:38 AM Coolio-Niato responds:

Yeah... I'm at almost 4000 lines of code.

Teaser trailer possibly but still in at least a month or so. And as for the graphix I had said that I undertook all the responsibilites in this game, so I'm actually the programmer and artist and animator for this entire project =) Makes it more worthwhile I think.

Jul. 5, 2008 | 2:30 AM Scalene says:

Are the graphics drawn in Flash, or will they be generated with Denvish's API engine?

Also, looks fully sweet. Is it going to require a good computer to run all those 4000 lines of code?

Jul. 5, 2008 | 10:41 AM Coolio-Niato responds:

Yeah all drawn in flash and I don't think a good computer is necessary no.

Jul. 5, 2008 | 2:46 AM poopmon says:

Jul. 5, 2008 | 4:08 AM gankro says:

Is it true that there will be a ballerina mode where everyone is in tu-tu's and everything is pink? Or will we just have to rest easy knowing the main character is a giant flacid penis?

JK, I know it's actually a vagina, I'm not retarded.

Jul. 5, 2008 | 10:42 AM Coolio-Niato responds:

Dammit don't spoil all the secrets for everyone!

Jul. 5, 2008 | 4:39 AM VanMavus says:

Whoa, looking fine. Not that you'll have a shortage but if you happen to need an extra tester throw me a pm :P.

Jul. 5, 2008 | 10:43 AM Coolio-Niato responds:

Yes. Fine it is looking. When I start a search for BETA testers it'll be on FP so yea.

Jul. 5, 2008 | 6:11 AM BBQSandwich says:

Jul. 5, 2008 | 10:43 AM Coolio-Niato responds:

Mardek who? No.. seriously?

Jul. 5, 2008 | 9:03 AM Epicness says:

A non-rhythm game? It's nice to see you branch out anyways, you've got plenty of rhythm games under your belt already, experiment with other genres, go nuts. I love both turn-based strategy and rhythm games anyways perhaps combine both? :)

Jul. 5, 2008 | 10:43 AM Coolio-Niato responds:

Haha there's no combination in this. Just full out tactics fun =)

Jul. 5, 2008 | 9:09 AM MorrowDays says:

Vicorous Blow? ^_^

looking really good man. I'd never be able to think up all these features into one fluid game, let alone code them! haha.

Jul. 5, 2008 | 10:45 AM Coolio-Niato responds:

Thanks mon =) Vigorous simply meaning more health over the other opponent and you get a dmg boost.

Jul. 5, 2008 | 9:45 AM ethandabomb says:

I hope its as good as it sounds, :D
and multiplayer would be cool

Jul. 5, 2008 | 10:45 AM Coolio-Niato responds:

Keep on hoping =) But to be frank, multiplayer would be tough to put in at this stage of the game, even as a side type.

Jul. 5, 2008 | 11:00 AM SAROTH says:

Looks sweet, I bet there will be cool music in it. ^_^

Also, can you tell me where you got the music for Streamline? I want it on my iPod, it's a great song. =)

Jul. 5, 2008 | 11:04 AM Coolio-Niato responds:

I will be using most of the tracks from the NG audio portal but most of them will be different from the current style I go with (techno) and be more classical and battle-y.

Some friend gave me the song XD

Jul. 5, 2008 | 12:26 PM OmegaTalon says:

Looks great so far, although it looks a bit too complex for my tastes it still seems well worth playing.

Jul. 5, 2008 | 12:42 PM Coolio-Niato responds:

I don't often like complex game environments either, not everyone does, but I'm trying to make the game progress easy and the menus, like above, have very simple things you can modify. (the attributes and buying/equipping skills). Also all of the skills and other sections can be rolled over to see what they are, and if that gets too annoying you can always toggle help =).

I'm trying to think this through for casual players and hardcore players alike.

This game actually looks awesome! Even if it isn't a rhythm game! ;pp (secret rhythm mini-games ftw btw ;pp)

If your beta estimate is anything to go by, it should be ready for me to play just as I get back from Africa! Perfect and awesome! Can't wait ;pp

Keep being awesome!! ;p

Jul. 5, 2008 | 7:21 PM Coolio-Niato responds:

Will do!

Jul. 5, 2008 | 6:21 PM g0m says:

This game looks like the sex/the shit/pretty good. And you can quote me on that. It reminds me of final fantasy tactics... an influence perhaps?

Jul. 5, 2008 | 7:22 PM Coolio-Niato responds:

Nope. This is the hundredth time I'm saying this, but it's ok. Never played any FF games and this is rather influenced by Fire Emblem.

Jul. 5, 2008 | 10:59 PM Goat-Man says:

This looks like the most epic game ever.
I can invision myself getting VERY addicted to this.

Jul. 5, 2008 | 11:53 PM Coolio-Niato responds:

Jul. 6, 2008 | 10:02 AM Coolio-Niato responds:

Why thank you. :3

Jul. 6, 2008 | 1:28 AM Kart-Man says:

Looking snazzy! Can't wait to play it. :D

I bet the final boss battle is either going to be ONE of three things:

a) you having to dodge the attacks of a giant ball-shooting crushing machine in time to techno music used semi-recently in a Pepsi commercial,
b) where you dress up as a penguin and race to the finish,
c) a giant bongo showdown.

CORRECT?!?

Jul. 6, 2008 | 10:02 AM Coolio-Niato responds:

STOP GIVING AWAY ALL THE SECRETS IN MY GAME MY GOD. YOUR SUCH A SPOILSPORT. :3

Looks awesome so far. I wish I could do both programming and art, but sadly I have no artistic capabilities :(

But watch out, I have plans for a turn-based strategy too ;)

Jul. 6, 2008 | 4:23 PM Coolio-Niato responds:

ME?! WATCH OUT? psht :P

Jul. 6, 2008 | 5:40 PM FireEmblem64 says:

Jul. 6, 2008 | 7:54 PM Coolio-Niato responds:

FIRE EMBLEM? MY MAN =)

Jul. 6, 2008 | 8:43 PM SpamBurger says:

How come you get nearly 30 replies to a news post in just one day, but I get 6 in almost 2 months? :(

>:(

Fuck you.

Jul. 7, 2008 | 1:01 AM Coolio-Niato responds:

It's cause my coolness level is > than yours :3

Jul. 7, 2008 | 9:49 AM hagaya says:

Oh! overtly complicated looking character system that after five minutes you realize that all you have to do is click the screen twice to make you character learn how to Bust some kneecaps. I like it! also, can you bust some kneecaps as a skill? This is everything at the beginning of the game? <3

Jul. 7, 2008 | 10:30 AM Coolio-Niato responds:

Yeah, it's a very simple system that you get introduced to right after level 1. =) Unfortunately, bust some kneecaps is not a skill, but you never know, if totally run out of ideas :P.

Jul. 9, 2008 | 11:05 AM stuff-and-co says:

I'm looking forward to its release on Kongregate, because it will probably get some badges on there :D

And also because it looks awesome. Great job already.

Jul. 13, 2008 | 12:58 PM TheKro says:

That game will be awesome like you! I hope you can find a good sponsor for this :)
