Coolio-Niato's News

Posted by Coolio-Niato - August 4th, 2007

Well I'm extremely happy about this. I haven't gotten a daily feature on my own ever, the first one I did get was for a collab. Daily First, wow. But alas...Rhythm games may be put on hold for a while. Might try to branch out into other fields, possibly puzzle games or others. Either way, Im just relaxing for a bit since I suppose that I have the right to now x]

If you havent seen it already, here's the link :

Let's hope it gets frontpage too =).

Rhythmblaster 2 MUST be lagfree i says. And when i kept getting this rly big slowdown and enormous lag on the first boss i was MAD. I went through tons of code, simplifying, rephrasing, etc, and in the end the glitch was in the absence a small removal code in a certain situation.

Now that that is fixed, TEN LEVELS down, 2 more to go, its a hell of a lot of fun, free of lag =D, tons of powerups, enemies, music, bonus levels, its awesome.

Hope you guys will like it :P

(Also made a seperate gameplay option for Macs =D )

Code is completely redone, no lag AT ALL, no choppyness no nothing. 2 levels are currently finished, and here is a list of stuff you can expect in the upcoming rhythmblaster:

-6 levels + 3 bosses
-3 Bonus Minigames to gain lives + score
-8 Powerups including the new Bomb and Laser Blaster
-Continue options for those who just suck ( -25K score for + 5 lives =D )
-Control options for ArrowKeys and Mouse control.

On a side note, Rhythmblaster was ranked well this week =) It got 15th weekly and 5th in games weekly. Check it out if you haven't already =)

Thoughts, suggestions? < All appreciated.

A followup sequal to RhythmBlaster is already crossing my mind, with some altered gameplay and reduced lag ideas. If you havent seen RhythmBlaster already...where the hell have you been?

What would be something you would want to see in the next RhythmBlaster? Enemies/powerups/what?
Comments appreciated.

By 5 o clock today, RhythmBlaster will be in the portal. The whole game is complete right now, so after a bit of testing it will be posted on Newgrounds and Kongregate.

With 3 musically synced levels and a final level with a synced boss, RhythmBlaster is going to be THE best rhythm game that Ive ever made. You'll get to be the judge of that though XD

Cya in a few hours :P

RhythmBlaster Hitting NG today!

Posted by Coolio-Niato - July 24th, 2007

6 enemies are now programmed and working.
2 songs are synced too!
3 more levels to make, then add a few menus and working highscores and it is finished.

RhythmBlaster is so close to done...Let these screenshots explain themselves.

Getting There >>>

It is WELL on its way now. I could even presume it might hit NG this very week. Here's the lowdown:

+Finished:
Synced 1 full song
Coded 4 different enemy types
Collision detection with ship
Lives, score counter, high scores are working
Almost no lag whatsoever
Pause Menu, Quality Toggle
5 working Powerups

-Yet to complete:
4-6 new enemies
Menus and menu gfx
4 more songs to sync

By the end of the day Im guessing two more enemy types will be done. Its coming along much better than I expected, its a lot of fun to play and beautifully designed, its like a large musical masterpiece.

Comments, ideas, suggestions? Lemme hear em =)

Next Update for RhythmBlaster

If any of you are actually following this...

-2 more enemies down
-gfx improved
-less lag than before
-syncing complete for about 1/2 a song

Working on....
-sync for the rest of the song
-2 more enemy types
-possibly a boss?
-powerups and collision detection with the ship.
-scoring system

Comments, ideas, suggestions for songs, like before, are greatly appreciated.
